  4.     DIED. Sterling Allen Brown, 87, poet, scholar and authority
  5. on black-American literature; in Takoma Park, Md. A professor of
  6. English at Howard University from 1929 to 1969, he won the
  7. Lenore Marshall poetry prize and was named the District of
  8. Columbia's poet laureate in 1984. "Done took my livin' as it
  9. came," wrote Brown, who composed much of his poetry in black
  10. dialect. "Done grabbed my joy, done risked my life."
